Myths are things that people people to be true and they are passed down from person to person. Myths also may become as part of a culture. One well known myth is how children are made. Parents may tel their kids that children are bought to them by the stork. Well that is a myth because it isn't true but people believe it to be true.

Legend, for its active and passive participants, includes no happenings that are outside the realm of "possibility", defined by a highly flexible set of parameters, which may include miracles that are perceived as actually having happened, within the specific tradition of indoctrination where the legend arises, and within which it may be transformed over time, in order to keep it fresh and vital, and realistic.

A friend is like a flower,
a rose to be exact,
Or maybe like a brand new gate
that never comes unlatched.
A friend is like an owl,
both beautiful and wise.
Or perhaps a friend is like a ghost,
whose spirit never dies.
A friend is like a heart that goes
strong until the end.
Where would we be in this world

This Poem By Adrienne S. is very metaphoric and inspirational. The poet compares friendship to many regular and normal things. Some of these things are gates and flowers. I like how the authour made the poem relatable. I think the author went within her soul to figure out the true meaning to a friend. Friendship is an in-depth relationship. I believe that friendship take a while to build. Talking and listening are required from both friends and also the same amout of equality and loyalty.

Dr. Martin Luther King

Martin Luther King Jr. was known across the nation as a great hero and a great leader in the civil rights movement. Because of his popularity among Blacks, his life, family, and home were constantly in danger at various times. He was threatened, harassed, arrested and even jailed. In January 1957, nearly 60 blacks administrators met in Atlanta to form the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Martin Luther King Jr. was elected as president. A few months later he met with vice president Richard Nixon when they were celebrating Ghanaian independence. A year later, Dr. King and three men who were civil rights leaders, were given awards by President Dwight Eisenhower.

One of the America's described America is considered to be beautiful.The other America contains every race other than whites and in this America the people live in poverty.
I think Dr. King meant that in his version of America everything is right and there is NO segregation or racial barriers. I think Dr. Martin Luther King jr. is trying to say that this America should be more like the other America.


The Two Americas

Based on Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech, he believes there is two Americas. In simplicity, Dr. King means that one America has an abundance of jobs and opportunity for its citizens. On the other hand, he speaks of the lack of respect for African- Americans and how African- Americans have no jobs and even if they do have jobs, their pay is severely low compared to white people. Today, I do think that racism is still about in the world, but we do not see many cases of racism today. -

In addition, the majority of all people are given the same opportunity when it comes to jobs. Due to the recession the country is in now, there are not as many jobs which means that the country is not really overflowing with an abundance of milk and honey. Similarly, the other America today is poor. The Declaration of Independence says that all men are created equally, so why should anyone be treated differently.

The debate over health care reform in the United States centers on questions about

* whether there is a fundamental right to health care,
* who should have access to health care and under what circumstances,
* who should be required to contribute toward the costs of providing health care in a society[1][2],
* whether the government should support health care commerce by forcing citizens to buy insurance or pay a fine,[3][4][5]
* the quality achieved for the sums spent,
* the sustainability of expenditures that have been rising faster than the level of general inflation and the growth in the economy,
* the role of the federal government in bringing about such change
* concerns over unfunded liabilities.

Health Care Reform Pros and Cons 2010 and Constitutionality of Healthcare Bill Explained. Many Americans are trying to weight he health care reform pros and cons in their head. This is hard to do, as there aren’t many people out there – politicians included – that have actually sat down and read the 2,300 pages plus of legislation.

To many, healthcare reform as passed on Sunday carries more cons than pros. The cons are the cost – how are we going to pay for this? Why would I get fined if I didn’t elect to get healthcare coverage? What if I can’t afford the required medical policies? Will my doctors change?

Other cons include resistance from the general public, showcasing that the passage of Obama’s health care plan wasn’t what’s best for America. In addition, not a single Republican voted for the bill in the House – showcasing that the effort wasn’t exactly bipartisan.

The pros are somewhat subjective. The proponents of the legislation say that the bill will bring insurance to 32 million Americans that currently don’t have access to coverage. The way the bill is structured is supposed to bring down the nation’s deficit by billions of dollars (the key word there is “supposed” to – what are the chances that this thing will work as planned?)

In addition, the bill is supposed to cut back on Medicare fraud and waste (there’s that word again – supposed to), and reign in insurance companies.

Thousands strip for nude Spencer Tunick photo in Sydney

More than 5000 people have gathered in front of the Sydney Opera House to be photographed nude in the name of art and diversity today.

A pregnant woman was among the first group of Australians to take their place on the steps of the Opera House just after dawn in photographer Spencer Tunick's latest installation, Mardi Gras: The Base.

Mardi Gras festival executive producer Danielle Harvey said 5200 people, including sportspeople, doctors, teachers and retirees, had lined up to take part.

High School Drop-out Rates
Are On The Rise

Education



The percent of student who stay in country schools from the 7th to the 12th grade used to be 72 percent. But in 2009 it surely dropped to 67 percent. But in Metropolitan government schools the rates stayed at 85 percent. The Board Of Education states that the government needs to acknowledge this problem. Last year the Education Minister said that the state government was going to set up virtual classrooms to share teachers.

I feel that all teens should get an education. I think what cause teen to drop put are certain things like hardships at home, not getting help in school, peer pressure. According to this article.

If you ask someone who has dropped out of high school why they did so, they will tell you.

The Statistics

Alison Kepner of The News Journal reports that dropouts are a problem in many states but Delaware has had a consistent graduation percentage below the national average. Only six out of 10 Delaware high schoolers will graduate by 2010. Dropouts are more likely to be

• unemployed
• in prison
• living in poverty
• receiving government assistance
• less healthy
• divorced
• single parents

When 500 dropouts, ages 16-25, were interviewed, they gave many reasons for leaving school:

• 47% said classes were not interesting
• 43% missed too many days to catch up
• 45% entered high school poorly prepared by their earlier schooling
• 69% said they were not motivated to work hard
• 35% said they were failing
• 32% said they left to get a job
• 25% left to become parents
• 22% left to take care of a relative

Two-thirds said they would have tried harder if more was expected from them.

Student Suggestions

Many students do not realize the seriousness of their decision to drop out of high school. It is only later in life they realize the poor choice they have made. To improve the situation i would suggest

• better teachers
• offer more alternatives
• schools should offer real-life opportunities
• more help with learning problems
• tutoring
• more school counselors
• summer school
• more supervision
• more school-to-home communication
• better mentoring between students and teachers

Weekend Post of 2/20-2/21 Black History Month

This month as people should know is Black History Month, Im here to acknowledge Harriet Tubman.

She was born in the year 1820 and died in March 1913. She led more than 300 fugitive slaves to freedom. Tubman usually traveled on a Saturday night, since runaway notices wouldn't be published in the newspapers until Monday morning. She also used a sleeping medication to quiet fussy babies.Tubman carried a gun for protection but, if needed, she would flash the gun before an escaping slave who might have thoughts of turning back.Tubman provided funds, and recruited personnel, for John Brown's raid at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. His attack failed, and Brown was captured, tried and hanged for treason.During the Civil War, Tubman served the Union Army as a washerwoman, a cook and a spy. Her superb knowledge of the country roads and wilderness in the South allowed her to slip behind enemy lines and spy on Confederate troop movements. After the Civil War, Tubman became somewhat of a celebrity with the publishing of her 1869 biography, Scenes from the Life of Harriet Tubman. The book told of her life as a slave and her exploits on the Underground Railroad. During the 1870s and 1880s, Tubman worked to promote women's suffrage. She traveled from New England to Washington, D.C. speaking in favor of a woman's right to vote.

On March 10, surrounded by family and friends, Tubman dies of pneumonia. Her last words are "I go to prepare a place for you."
